Florida Dentist Hides $3.4M, Threatens IRS, Faces 15 Years!

A Florida dentist, Jon Williams, was indicted for tax evasion, failing to withhold and pay employment taxes, and obstructing federal tax laws.

Williams filed tax returns and paid taxes from 2002 through 2012, and sought extensions for 2013 and 2014, but never filed those returns, or any year after that.

From 2020 through 2023, Williams failed to report $3,371,657 in business income and failed to pay $1,079,136 in taxes. He stopped filing employment tax returns in 2013. Just from the second quarter of 2020 through the fourth quarter of 2022, he failed to report and pay $133,360 in employment taxes.

For more than three years after learning the IRS was investigating him, Williams sent emails and letters seeking to stop the investigation to the agent, her supervisor, a Florida member of congress, Florida’s two senators, the treasury secretary, attorney general, IRS commissioner and an IRS district director.

He demanded the agent stop investigating him, threatened personal liability, sent a $525,000 invoice to the agent and federal agencies, and offered to cancel it if the agent was fired and barred from any federal job.

He faces up to five years in prison for each tax evasion offense, five years for the employment tax offense, three years for the obstruction offense, and restitution.

Quack Tax Preparer Heads to Prison and Ordered to Pay Over $6 Million in Restitution!

Ann Quach, a California tax preparer, was found guilty of filing false tax returns and wire fraud. From 2011 to 2024, Quach prepared 1,734 Form 1040 returns that caused multimillion-dollar losses to the IRS.

Quach fabricated losses for businesses that did not exist and included false deductions for medical expenses and charitable contributions. The entries reduced taxes owed and often generated refunds, while Quach collected substantial fees from clients. Many of her clients had been with her for years.

She was sentenced to 27 months in prison and ordered to pay $6,481,731 in restitution.

Business Owner Fails to Pay Employment Taxes Finds Himself in a Heavenly Pickle!

George Dilles pleaded guilty to one count of failing to truthfully account for and pay employment taxes.

Dilles was president and part-owner of Visiting Angels, an elderly home personal care company in Milwaukee that at any given time employed between 50 and 110 workers.

For 17 quarters from 2019 through 2023, Dilles withheld federal income taxes, Social Security and Medicare taxes from employees’ wages but failed to file the required returns or pay more than a million dollars in employment taxes owed. He used the funds for personal expenses, including mortgage payments and two luxury cars, a Maserati and a McLaren.

Dilles also used employment tax returns that he didn’t file with the IRS, to obtain a PPP loan in the amount of $312,500.

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison, three years of supervised release and ordered to pay 1.2 million dollars in restitution.

Pizza Owner Keeps Too Much Dough Off the Books Kneads a Good Lawyer!

An undercover IRS sting at Cappy’s Pizza & Subs, a Fenway restaurant popular with college students, led to charges against owner Demetrios Pseudoikonomou for avoiding more than $520,000 in federal taxes.

Pseudoikonomou pleaded not guilty to presenting false tax returns. Between 2018 and 2023, he failed to report more than 1.6 million dollars in income from his pizza business and rents from tenants in the six-story building above the restaurant.

Restaurant revenue flowed into four bank accounts, but only two were disclosed to his accountant. During that time he underreported pizza receipts by more than $730,000. The majority of the rent payments were made via Venmo and Zelle transfers, and he underreported by almost $890,000 over five years.

Pseudoikonomou was caught during an IRS sting in which an agent posed as a prospective buyer. Pseudoikonomou told the agent that he gave his accountant only the financial information he wanted reported and offered to teach the buyer tricks for handling rental income. At one point he became suspicious and asked whether the agent was wearing a wire or was a police officer. He threatened to kill him if he worked for the IRS or police and threatened to send people to his home.

He faces up to three years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and restitution.

A Recipe for Fraud – Williams Sonoma Exec Steals $16 Million!

Eric Marsiglia pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering after embezzling millions from his employer, Williams Sonoma.

From 2018 through 2022, Marsiglia served as the company’s Vice President of Engineering, Projects, Planning, Facilities, and Real Estate, with authority to enter into vendor contracts. His responsibilities included leasing warehouse space throughout the US, and purchases of steel racking, forklifts, and related logistics services.

Starting in 2018, Marsiglia used his authority over warehouse contracts and leasing to steer business to favored vendors. He accepted kickbacks for directing business to three New Jersey companies supplying forklifts, racking systems and warehouse machinery. He created REM Group, a shell company, to receive and conceal more than 12.2 million dollars in kickbacks.

From 2020 through 2022, Marsiglia also diverted more than 4.1 million dollars in real estate broker commissions into REM Group accounts, distributing portions to himself and co-conspirators. He admitted laundering fraud proceeds through transactions designed to disguise their source and ownership.

He faces many years in prison, up to a $500,000 fine and restitution to his employer and the IRS.

Law Firm Paralegal Embezzles $1.8 Million!

Bobbie Ellis pleaded guilty to wire fraud and tax evasion for stealing from the law firm that employed her as a paralegal, bookkeeper and office manager.

From 2010 to 2018, Ellis had access to the firm’s financial records, bank accounts and notary stamp. Beginning in 2012, she accessed bank accounts without authorization and forged her employer’s signature on checks, embezzling a total of $1,861,575.75.

Ellis used the stolen proceeds to purchase a home in Georgia and one in Florida. She also used a credit card linked to her employer to make more than $945,000 in unauthorized purchases, including vacations, hotel stays, restaurant meals, retail store purchases, and purchases for her children and pets. She then used law firm funds to pay those credit card charges and conceal the fraud.

From 2013 through 2017, Ellis failed to report both the stolen money and earnings to the IRS, leaving her owing $657,707 in taxes.

For wire fraud, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. For tax evasion she faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and restitution.

Did You Know?

In 1941, the Soviet Union imposed a childless tax on men ages 25 -50 and married women ages 20 to 45, to increase the population. The tax began as 6% of a person’s salary, and was gradually reduced until it was abolished in 1990.

Thank you for the Kind Words…

… I used one of those Runoff the Mill Tax Preparations firm and the preparer kept making it show like I had a loss in my business… I had no business and no loss… The IRS was billing me an outrageous amount. I learn of Freedom Tax Resolution, and they negotiated with the IRS for me. I’m very happy with their service.

Your IRS Questions Answered Here…

Question: I’ve just discovered that my accountant embezzled from my company. He never paid our payroll taxes in over two years, and the money is gone. What recourse do I have with the IRS?

Answer: Owing 941 payroll taxes is very different than owing personal 1040 income taxes. Not only can the IRS padlock the doors to your business, but they can also come after you personally, levy your bank accounts, confiscate your receivables, and seize your income and real property. Scarier still is that it could turn into a criminal matter. The IRS views this as if you stole their money. Payroll tax delinquency is the IRS’s number one enforcement priority.

Even if you were embezzled from, you are still liable for the taxes. You may have grounds for penalty abatement, though. Acting quickly by getting help NOW greatly improves your chances for a successful resolution. The longer you wait, the more you risk this turning into a criminal matter, where your options are very limited. The IRS has special programs for business owners who have fallen behind on their payroll tax obligations. We can assess your situation and figure out the best way to protect you, take over all dealings with the IRS, and negotiate a resolution. Don’t let them take everything you’ve worked so hard for. Penalties and interest are compounded daily just like a credit card. Don’t let this balloon out of control. Call us today so we can get you protected! There is a solution!
